I am very fond of Grof and his works on the truths/reality behind psychedelics.
Thank you for this post.
The resulting/observed phenomena really are quite astonishing.
What are your thoughts on the psychedelic experience and waking consciousness. For many shaman, they do not consume yet administer as treatment. Many (shaman) have stated that the same effects are attainable through exercises of breath work, mindfulness, energy direction, and intent. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this if you have any knowledge of spirituality and breath work.
As for the phenomenology of the psychedelic experience, I find it to be fascinating both on a scientific level and a personal one. It's unbelievable when one considers that some of the most meaningful experiences one could ever hope to have are just a few grams of magic mushroom away. I don't know much about breathing exercises of the sort you're alluding to, but I'm very skeptical of claims that one can have a breakthrough psychedelic experience without actually using psychedelics.
Thank you Dr. Zagros. I’ve looked at your article. This leads me to press further on to bring up “manipulation” of consciousness (or energy). Grof alludes to it many times in The Holotropic Mind. I personally would’ve enjoyed a deeper dive to highlight our sober* body’s ability to reach such dimensions of Being. If you’re curious I’d suggest a few, perhaps tabu (?) topics to look into. Easy reads and very insightful. I’ve experiences some of the gateway magic, it’s sober and sobering at the same time. It’s also very infectious and helps to set momentum to whatever your goals are. Joe Dispenza has pretty much mastered it- if you’re familiar with his works.
I appreciate your take, Heather. I’ll have to look into this a little bit more before having an informed opinion. I’ll read about Joe Dispenza. Thank you for the suggestion.

Thank you for your comment, Heather. Regarding my thoughts on consciousness, my latest article dives into it: https://zagroscience.substack.com/p/from-atoms-to-qualia
